Is Your Writing Desk in the Command Position?

Do you know if your writing desk is in the command position?

The command what? I know, it's not the first thing you think of when setting up your home office. However, the location of your desk can greatly impact your cash flow, confidence level and overall energy.

For instance, did you know that if your desk faces a window or your back is against a window, your chi (or life force) is literally being pulled right out of you? Yep. Or if your back is facing the door, you're putting yourself in the least powerful position? Oh, it's true.

To optimize your abundance, your desk needs to be facing the door of whatever room your in, ideally diagonal from the door.

When I heard this tidbit of information from feng shui expert Gwynne Warner with 10K Blessings Feng Shui, I jumped right on it. My desk was, at the time, facing a window. I promptly went home and placed my desk in the command position. Within 2 days, I had 3 new writing gigs! I was hooked.

Take your abundance level up another notch by setting up the prosperity corner of your desk. It's located in the upper right hand corner. Place something red or some other object to indicate abundance. I have an antique jewelry box filled with money and pearls, a citrine stone (for success) and an abundance statement (noting my $10,000 a month income).

If you want to know more, check out a bagua - I've set up my entire house according to basic feng shui princples. It's amazing because you can actually feel the energy shift. Or you can hire a feng shui consultant and have he/she do it all for you!

Let me know how changing your desk to the command position affects your abundance levels. Or have additional feng shui tips? Leave a comment!

Good luck!
Heather

Create Your Perfect Year in 2008

So, the end of 2007 is just about here. And I don't know about you, but the end of the year usually gets me thinking about the upcoming year and all that I want to accomplish.

Last year, I took a rockin' teleclass on setting up the future of my business (and life!). I can't believe how fast it went and how much I achieved! Now, this year I'm spreading the word - telling everyone I know to take this teleclass. Join the best coach ever, Brooke Emery, as she hosts: The Law of Attraction - Am I Doing it Right? Move Beyond the Law.

You don't want to miss this:
Jan. 10, 2008 7pmEST/4pmPT

Reserve your seat today by emailing: info@thefemmenetwork.com with the following info:

Email:
Phone #:
Femme member: yes/no

In 2008 I would like to attract these things into my life: (i.e. - a new job, $10,000 to pay off loans, 3 big clients, a life partner, etc.)

Tell them Heather sent you. :)

And, if you do take the teleclass (which I hope you will!), be sure to let me know how it went. You will be shocked at how quickly you manifest what you desire with Brooke's help.

Enjoy!
Heather :)

Fab Book & Harmony Center of Oregon

Occasionally, I get so excited about a book that I HAVE to share it with the rest of the blogosphere.

If you have not read Journey of Souls by Michael Newton, I HIGHLY encourage you to do so. It has totally rocked my world, opening me up to a deeper understanding as to why we're all here, doing this thing called life. Even when it feels hard and gut-wrenching and too much. There is a reason. And the people in our lives are no accident. Our career as writers (or calling as it is for most!) is no accident either.

I could go on and on, but please - get this book! Then, be sure to let me know how much you loved it.

Also - if you live in the Portland area - join us this Thursday night, 7-9pm, Dec. 13th at the Harmony Center of Oregon for a monthly book discussion group about Journey of Souls. We can meet, chat and delve deeper into this amazing book.

If you can't join the group, stop by the Harmony Center for Tuesday night meditation (7pm) or Sunday's awesome and inspiring service (10:30am). Be sure to meet Preston - the director. Coolest guy ever - with energy that makes you happy to be alive!

Let me know if you get the book or visit the Harmony Center.
-Heather :)

Are You a Stressed Out Writer?

A 2004 Gallup poll revealed that half of all Americans are pressed for time and stressed out. Ever feel like that? Me too! Somehow, despite my best intentions, I often find myself overscheduled, strapped for time and therefore, stressed about how I'll get everything done.

Add to that cranky clients and the hassles of everyday life and well, things can start to feel pretty overwhelming.

A constant overachiever, I decided last year that I would cease all double-booking. This has been amazing for me. Only one social activity a day - no more. Instead of having happy hour with my sister and visiting a friend's poetry reading - I only choose one activity. But, lately, I've forgotten my rule. I'm having lunch and dinner with friends and then going to a book reading. I'm out at appointments all day doing interviews and then have a social gathering to attend.

The result?
A stressed out, low on sleep, irritable Heather.
Not a good thing, let me tell you.

And so that's why this weekend, I did nothing - or at least only activities I love. Unsure of what "nothing" looks like - check it some of my suggestions:

-No makeup all weekend (poor boyfriend!).
-Comfortable sweatshirts and a ponytail.
-Do only what you LOVE. For me this meant, baking, cooking, organizing my filing cabinets and closet and putting up my Christmas decorations.
-Sleep. I slept 8 hours each night, in my favorite comfy sweatshirt. Take that!
-Watch perfectly fabulous movies. I watched 3 movies in a row. And only watched movies - I didn't even knit - no multi-tasking allowed!I NEVER do this.
-Laugh.
-Put together a puzzle.
-Nap.
-Pet the cat.
-Eat wonderfully yummy food (wheat-free cookies and gluten-free spinach pizza baby!).
-Read books you adore.

All in all, my 2-day weekend felt like a 5-day vacation. For some reason, without multi-tasking, my days were longer, more fun and more fulfilling. I could get used to this doing nothing thing...

So - what do you do when you're doing "nothing" (i.e. not working)?
Do tell!
xoHeather :)
