The Value of Networking...Even If You're a Writer

I love to write. But I also love people. Which is why after 8 hours at my desk (okay, more like 6), I need to connect with a live person.

And tonight I get to do just that. I am joining Women in Portland Publishing, a networking organization for publishers and writers alike. I've been to one of their meetings before and was blown away. I met a professional indexer (she indexes for a living!), publishers, editors, PSU students, and women working on their first book. All of that writing energy in one room was impressive.

Tonight's event will be at Via Delizia in NW P-town. I've never been there, but they specialize in Italian desserts. Game on! These chicks know how to do it.

Stay tuned for my review of the event AND the cafe...
Cheers,
Heather :)

Periods in Your Bullet Points & More...

Happy Friday!

I am very grateful to be working with so many amazing businesses! I recently completed a brochure for Integrity Residential (worked with the loveliest agent ever - Heather Francine). I'm also working with the wonderful folks from Secure Network Solutions. In addition to all of that - I've got an upcoming article in NW Meetings & Events and Principal Broker.

And then, of course, there are the infamous bullet points. I'm a big fan. I use bullet points a lot in website copy (easier to read) and marketing collateral. Not so much with non-fiction articles - although I may find a way to work it in. The writing question that stems from all of this bullet pointed-ness is this; do you put a period at the end of a bulleted phrase? The answer is (are you ready?) sometimes.

You need to be consistent when using bullet points. If it’s a complete sentence (noun/verb agreement), you definitely should. If not, there is no need for a period. However, be careful not to have sentences in your bulleted cluster with periods and some without.

Still not sure? :) Check out more info here.

BTW, not sure if you've noticed this, but Yahoo! has been yielding less and less desirable results. I'm loving Ask! this seems to always take me to exactly the information I want.

Got more tips? Send them my way!
